Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14
Faith Formation for Children
Cross in the Woods’ Faith Formation programs are designed to assist parents in fulfilling their obligation to educate their children in the knowledge of the Catholic faith, love, and service of God.
Parents are the primary educators in their children’s Catholic faith. Your active participation to your child’s religious education is a duty and obligation that you accepted upon your child’s baptism. The Faith Formation programs help and support parents in this responsibility.
At this time Cross in the Woods is offering the following Faith Formation programs programs on the second, third, and fourth Sunday mornings, starting the third Sunday in September (Catechetical Sunday) through May. Sessions for all children will be held after 8:30 am Holy Mass, from 9:30-10:45 am, in the Fr. Donard Hall. Attending 8:30 am Holy Mass is part of our programs so we welcome parents and children to become engaged in reverence to the Holy Mass, which is a sign of our love united with the love of Christ in giving ourselves to the Father.
*Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for children (3 to 5 years old). Catechists who will work with the children will participate in nearly 100 hours of formation and will prepare a special environment for the children, which is called the Atrium. To learn more about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd faith formation method, please watch this video. If you are an adult/parent who were trained or is interested in being trained as a catechist in this special program, please prayerfully consider joining us!
*Faith Formation program (K through Fifth grade) was updated by Fr. Patrick Maher and our foundational resource for all grades will be the Saint Joseph Catechism for Young Catholics by the Catholic Book Publishing Corp. Our children will be working with this source, as their focus is on memorization of key beliefs, prayers, and teachings of the Catholic faith.
The topics/Flyers will be stuffed in every bulletin during the school year and Parents will be receiving catechism sessions from RCIA published by the Association for Catechumenal Ministry (ACM)
Families are welcome to sign up their children for any of these Faith Formation programs, by clicking on the Forms (Registration and Medical Release) link or by contacting the Faith Formation Office for more information. All completed Forms need to be submitted by August 30 to the faith formation office in order for us to meet materials deadline.
